Angelica Kauffman
By:"Angelica Kauffmann"
Published on 2007 by Hatje Cantz Pub
Angelica Kauffman (1741-1807) had an amazing career as a painter of international eminence. Born in Switzerland, and at home in Rome and London, where she was one of the founding members of the Royal Academy of Arts, she always considered her true roots to be the Brengenzerwald of Austria. In addition to her fame as an artist, she was just as known for her refined taste as a salon hostess. This monograph, which accompanies two Austrian exhibitions commemorating the two-hundredth anniversary of the artist's death, is an homage to Angelica Kauffman's life and oeuvre. Oriented toward both art and cultural history, the authors touch on the intriguing question of the relevance of this exceptional female artist today.
